DOT FARLEY Retired
DOT’S BIO
Born and raised in Lexington, SC, Dot graduated from Lexington High
School and went to work for Southern Bell in Columbia as a
Draftsperson in their Engineering Department. In 1964 she transferred
to the Charleston area and continued working in the Engineering
Department of Southern Bell. She lived on the Isle of Palms until 1989
when she was displaced by Hurricane Hugo. Along the way, in 1967 she
went to work at Naval Electronics Southeast Division
(SPAWAR/Information Warfare Command Charleston) in their
Engineering Department, again, as a Draftperson. In 1980 she moved
to the Fleet Department as an Engineering Technician and continued
her career installing communications equipment in the Atlantic Fleet
SSBN force. Soon thereafter her job transitioned to installing special
communications equipment in Atlantic Fleet aircraft carriers, and then
shortly thereafter in carriers worldwide. In this capacity, she saw much
of the world which the Navy called home. In San Diego, she met
her future husband, Dave, and they married in 1991. In 1997 Dot
retired following 31 years as a Navy civilian.
